Nimh South America Tour Part 10: Montre Livingston and John Bolino in Babahoyo, Ecuador

Montre Livingston and John Bolino continue their shred tour through South America. Find out what happened to the NIMH Pro Team in Babahoyo, Ecuador.

In Part 10, the guys are up at 4am again today for a bus ride to Babahoyo, Ecuador. In the heat of the day, they sweat through a session at the local skatepark while the equator furnace blazes down upon them. Fighting back with sunblock, fruit cups, plastic pouches of water, they still manage to rip the park. John decides it’s time to bring the Wild Gecko shorts into play, which marked a monumental milestone for this tour.

Panhandle Pow Wow 2010

Here are some shots I took during the GC trip to the Pow Wow comp in Pensacola FLA. It was an awesome event and I got to enjoy the time with Sammy and Joey Chase, Aragon, KC Roche,  Dre,Oli Short and Gabriel Hyden. It was Gabriel’s first time to the U.S. so I was kind of bummed to only offer him deep fried southern food (we couldn’t find anything else), but we made up for it with fat girls and watered down beer. The event ran as smooth as possible considering the park has a full bar, and there is a strip club within 100 feet. Blake gets two thumbs up from the Rat Tail family, and we hope to be there in full force next year. Enjoy.

10 Seconds with Oli Short

Be-Mag did a quick 10 seconds story with Nimh & Vicious rider Oli Short during the Winterclash. Read up on his plans for the year and what he had to say about the Winterclash. Oli Short, along with Gabriel Hyden, will be flying to Florida to meet up with Jon Elliott at the Panhandle Pow Wow. Everyone needs to roll that event hang out, kick it and skate to your hearts content.

SO, WHAT’S UP, OLI? HAVE YOU SKATED THIS COURSE YET?

Not yet, but, yeah, I’ll be skating a bit. I don’t think I’ll be competing, but I just want to be here to catch with all my friends, hang out a bit… I enjoy skating with the kids too, just promoting rollerblading.

SO, YOU’VE BEEN HERE A FEW DAYS ALREADY, RIGHT?

Yeah, came in a few days early. When you travel it’s usually so quick and you end up missing what a city has to offer, so I made a point to get out here a few days early. Done a load of stuff already! The first night we stayed at a place called IMA – it’s an old warehouse that’s been converted into studios and an artist community and it’s close to a lot of museums in the area; there’s a lot going on there so that was really cool seeing that side of Berlin.

Checked out a few records stores too that I’ve been wanting to visit. Again, skating is great, but there’s so much more than just skating that makes skating great; it’s because of the opportunities to travel and really see all the different parts of a culture. So, it’s been good. And than I head back tomorrow after the Clash.

Jay Reatard – “It Ain’t Gonna Save Me”

Jay Reatard is and was in my top three of favorite musicians. It was a not a total shock when it was announced that he passed away from a combination of excessive cocaine and alcohol consumption. I remember hanging out with his former band mates the night before I flew to Germany last October and them telling me about Jay’s typical twelve day benders fueled with drugs and alcohol combined with no sleep. The guy may have been an asshole, and to some extents a fuck up, but he has written his place in history as one of the greatest performers of time. Check out the video for this song “It Ain’t Gonna Save Me” below. Sorry to say you were right Jay.

Os Gêmeos

Os Gêmeos (Portuguese for The Twins) are graffiti artist identical twin brothers (born 1974) from São Paulo, Brazil, whose real names are Otavio and Gustavo Pandolfo. They started painting graffiti in 1987 and gradually became a main influence in the local scene, helping to define Brazil’s own style. Their work often features yellow-skinned characters – taken from the yellow tinge both of the twins have in their dreams – but is otherwise diverse and ranges from tags to complicated murals. Subjects range from family portraits to commentary on São Paulo’s social and political circumstances, as well as Brazilian folklore. Their graffiti style was influenced by both traditional hip hop style and the Brazilian pixação movement.
