A day with Micah Yeager
May 26, 2006 by Jan Welch

Jan Welch: Ok Jon, your first?
Jon Elliott: What? You told me not to print out the questions, because you said you would remember them all!
Jan Welch: You don’t remember any of them?
Jon Elliott: No! That’s why I sat there and typed them up!
Jan Welch: Ok, Jon’s first question was this….
Jon Elliott: Jan, remember them right!
Jan Welch: Why did you end up moving to California from Texas?
Micah Yeager: I ended up getting evicted from my house which was fine because I was getting tired of living in Austin. The shit really hit the fan there.
Wes Driver: What lead up to you getting evicted?
Micah Yeager: One of our roommates made up a bunch of lies! I mean sure there were some underlying facts to what he was saying, but he wasn’t telling the full story. What happened is my friend Allen accidentally punched a hole through our roommate’s door, which unfortunately was one of those flimsy doors you can kick right through. Allen was going to buy a new door to replace the damaged one. With this being said, Allen decided to start throwing knives at the door for fun, so we joined him at it. The next thing that led to our demise, was that I pushed another friend and accidentally put a hole in the wall, which was made of really shitty sheetrock construction. So basically the kid told our landlord we were crazy and that he couldn’t live there anymore and that he should go and take a look at the house. The landlord ended up coming by and seeing what the kid said we had done. At this point we were told to get out and ended up having a going away party, so to speak, and a bunch of people trashed my house.
Jon Elliott: What was the skate scene like in Austin.
Micah Yeager: It was really good. It was basically just my friend Caden and I, when we decided to go skate. Usually when we said we were going to skate, he would come over and we would just end up getting drunk.
Jan Welch: What do you miss about Texas?
Micah Yeager: I miss everything, even the shitty weather sometimes. But don’t get me wrong, I love being in California. It has been a great experience.
Jan Welch: When are you going back to Texas?
Micah Yeager: In about seven months because my car registration will be up.
Jan Welch: So you are driving all the way to Texas to re-register your car?
Micah Yeager: Yeah, I don’t want a damn California license plate on my car!
Jan Welch: How was living with Chris Haffey in Corona when you first moved to California?
Micah Yeager: It was interesting. It was very nice of them to take me in for so long. But it was nice to get my own place finally. It is hard living somewhere when you don’t have your own personal space and at the same time I was having trouble finding a job.
Jon Elliott: Do you like living in Riverside now?
Micah Yeager: This isn’t Riverside, its Upland.
Jan Welch: How long have you been living here?
Micah Yeager: HEY MONICA!! HOW MANY MONTHS HAVE WE BEEN LIVING HERE?
Monica: SINCE OCTOBER!
Micah Yeager: So about seven months.
Monica: What is this for?
Micah Yeager: This is for the Rat Tail website, do you think they came up here just to hang out with me?
Jan Welch: What are some bands you recommend?
Micah Yeager: This is some pressure now, how about Suicide Twins, Johnny Kid and the Pirates and Hanoi Rocks.
Jon Elliott: Are you into any new bands at all?
Micah Yeager: I like the attitude of Pete Dougherty from Baby Shambles and the Libertines.
Jon Elliott: Did you hear he is recording with Courtney Love now?
Micah Yeager: Hey man you have to make money somehow.
Jan Welch: What was the last CD you bought?
Micah Yeager: The Great 28 of Chuck Berry.
Jan Welch: How long have you been playing guitar?
Micah Yeager: About two years now
Jan Welch: What guitars do you have?
Micah Yeager: I have a Black Gibson Melody Maker and I have a Sunburst Gibson Les Paul Jr.
Jan Welch: Do you have any musical goals?
Micah Yeager: Not really, if I end up playing with the right people, then cool, if not whatever.
Jon Elliott: Are there any stupid reality shows or silly pop culture elements you enjoy?
Micah Yeager: No.
Monica: He likes Nanny 911.
Jon Elliott: Oh Shit, I love that show!
Micah Yeager: Trading Spouses is better, but neither one really counts as pop culture.
Jan Welch: When is the last time you used a computer?
Micah Yeager: The other day at the public library, but the last time I owned a computer was about two years ago. I’ve deviated straight away from the Internet.
Jan Welch: Why is your hair so gray?
Micah Yeager: It’s because my hair was blonde before and then I dyed it dark so it mixed kind of weird, but I like the way it looks. I think it looks like I powder my hair.
Jon Elliott: Do you ever wash your hair?
Micah Yeager: Sometimes, but it gets too soft and I don’t like the feeling of it.
Jon Elliott: How did you get into rollerblading?
Micah Yeager: Well I first started skateboarding when I was ten. I had a friend back then who moved away and when I was thirteen he came back and was rollerblading. At first I was making fun of him, so convinced me to try it and I liked it. I ended up asking my parents a few months later if I could get a pair for Christmas and I did. I’ve been skating ever since, about nine years now.
Jan Welch: What is the most satisfying thing about skating to you?
Jon Elliott: The blisters!
Micah Yeager: Ask Monica I’ve got soft feet! I can’t help it…
Monica: He has softer feet then me.
Micah Yeager: The most satisfying thing to me has been meeting all the people I have met through rollerblading. It is very interesting, almost like a sociology experiment.
Jon Elliott: What do you like the most about skating right now?
Micah Yeager: Well I like the way Sean Santamariaskates. But again, I don’t really watch all the new videos, so I don’t know all the good kids in the sport these days. But Dominic Sagona will always be amazing. As long as you can always buy a pair of skates there will be people out there who will make you want to skate. Rollerblading to me is how it was in 93 but people are actually good.
Jon Elliott: Remember the guy at the bar the other night.
Wes Driver: Yea he said “Everyone our age used to rollerblade in the 90’sâ€.
Jan Welch: That’s funny because just yesterday there was some scenester mop head at Goodwill and I overheard him say to his girlfriend “Oh wow a pair of rollerblades, I used to love doing that!â€
Micah Yeager: Rollerblading in the mid to late 90’s is how skating boarding now except for the fact that the wrong people made all the money.
Wes Driver: When the money was there the wrong people got the money that didn’t have any Artistic vision, or any vision at all. They just took the money and ran.
Jan Welch: What’s the deal with Kaspa these days.
Micah Yeager: We’re just keeping it like it is, and if you don’t know what it is, then you won’t know.
Jon Elliott: What’s up with a skate sponsor?
Micah Yeager: Well I get skates from USD. The ones I am on right now are the Evo Thrones.
Jan Welch: Is there a spot you’ve skated in your past that you would want to skate again?
Micah Yeager: Yea, I was actually thinking about that the other day. It would be a spot with ledges in my hometown of Port Lavaca, which they actually capped when I was fifteen.
Micah skates for Ground Control Frames and Vicious Bearings.
