Journey to Moscow, Russia – Day 7: The Metro

The Subway Stations
I went to bed last night with a terrible headache and woke up with it still this morning. It does not seem to be going away. After getting ready I began my day at Rollerclub, where I spent a couple of hours watching Russian skate videos with Igor and waited for Yriy to show up. Due to traffic I Yriy was running late. I decided I would just meet with him later and headed out to take a tour of the metro line. From my first day in Moscow I was really impressed by the Metro system. Opened in 1935, it is well known for the ornate design of many of its stations, which contain outstanding examples of socialist realist art.

Back to the hostel
Smokenskaya is the closest station to my hostel. After getting back to Arbat Street, I was getting pretty hungry and could not stomach more sushi and pancakes. I decided to go to the Hard Rock Cafe across the street from my hostel and have some bbq ribs and an Alabama Slammer cocktail. While sitting on the patio I was surprised to see Hare Krishna’s parade past. After dinner I headed back to the hostel to take a nap. After waking up I decided to walk around town with some of the guys from my hostel to look for a bar. We walked two hours until we found a cool bar with nice girls outside who loved American’s. However the door guys did not like us and wouldn’t let us in, so we walked back to the hostel and called it a night. I was still feeling pretty bad at this point so it was probably for the best not to drink tonight anyway.
